Thirteenth Doctor & Dr Anastasia Black

Surprise! To celebrate the announcement of the upcoming third season of Night Terrace, chaps Petra Elliott and John Richards have a look back at the Thirteenth Doctor’s first season.

How does Thirteen compare to our own time traveller, Dr. Anastasia Black? Was there too much focus on the male companions? Is Thirteen holding back, or displaying traditionally “feminine” traits? How does Night Terrace measure up by the same standards – is Anastasia as progressive a character as we’d like to think? And what about Petra’s character, “Sue”? Plus they chat about the wholesale changes to Doctor Who, their hopes and dreams for future seasons, how much they love Jodie Whitakker (and Night Terrace star Jackie Woodburne), and their own experiences as performers.

Night Terrace season three is scheduled for release in May 2020 – but only if it gets crowdfunded by November 22, 2019! Check out our Kickstarter campaign for more information.

If you’re new to Night Terrace, listen to the first episode for free at nightterrace.com/listen. You can also buy the first two seasons bundled together with the third as part of the Kickstarter campaign.

It’s Christmas time!

Time for a bit of a clean up around here! We’re no longer just about the podcast, and so we’re no longer just Splendid Chaps – we’re Splendid Chaps Productions. You can still listen to  our fiftieth anniversary Doctor Who podcast, but now you can also find out about our original sci-fi comedy series Night Terrace, and watch out for news of new projects coming from the Chaps, including a brand-new podcast, Pratchat, revisiting the works of Sir Terry Pratchett in 2016. And we’ve opened a Bandcamp store, where you can find all the stuff we’ve released for sale so far!

But Christmas is also a time to celebrate, so we thought we’d release something from the archives – one of the most popular cover songs from our year of Doctor Who back in 2013. So, from our Christmas special, please enjoy Petra Elliott and the Time Lads with their rendition of the unlikely Christmas single, “I’m Gonna Spend My Christmas with a Dalek”!

Listen: Night Terrace

Hello everyone! Way back in our Christmas special we mentioned our next project, a narrative comedy called Night Terrace (IT’S A PUN!). It stars the Chaps’ Ben and Petra alongside the glorious Jackie Woodburne (NeighboursSusan Kennedy) and a stellar guest-cast. And it’s a thing now! A genuine thing! You can find it here.

Here’s the trailer for season one:

And here’s the entire first scene of episode one!

Enjoy!

Night Terrace: the new project from the Chaps!

Splendid Chaps may have ended…but the moment had been prepared for!

Night Terrace is an eight-part sci-fi comedy audio series, produced, written by and featuring the Splendid Chaps team! Jackie Woodburne (Neighbours) stars as Anastasia Black, a scientist who used to save the world – and whose quiet retirement is cut short when her house starts travelling through time and space. We’re crowdfunding Night Terrace on Kickstarter, and you can find out more by checking out the campaign, or by visiting the Night Terrace web site.

Night Terrace/Home

Surprise! Just when you thought you’d got rid of us, we thought we’d pop up and tell you all about our new project, Night Terrace! Our Kickstarter campaign is now underway and you can find it here! But rather than just spam your ears, Ben and John thought they should at least record a mini-episode since so many of you have sent lovely messages hoping we’d be back. Since Night Terrace revolves around a mysterious house, we decided to discuss the notion of “home” in Doctor Who in the traditional Splendid Chaps cafe, Penny Farthing in Northcote.

Our new audio comedy series will follow the adventures of ex-world saving science adventurer Anastasia Black, played by Jackie Woodburne (Neighbours’ Susan Kennedy), as she tries to figure out why her house has started to travel through space and time – and how to get back home. It will also feature chaps Ben McKenzie as her sidekick Eddie, and Petra Elliott as the enigmatic “Sue”. The first series is written by John Richards, Lee Zachariah, Ben McKenzie and David Ashton, and you can find out more at nightterrace.com.
